WHAT ARE RETINOIDS?
The term retinoid refers to a group of compounds that derive from vitamin A. They possess structural and functional similarities to vitamin A. Retinols can be natural or synthetic and come in several types and forms, such as retinol, retinal, and retinyl esters.
What makes retinoids unique is that they are very effective in producing collagen in the skin. Collagen is the substance that gives skin its elasticity and youthful appearance. Retinoids stimulate cellular turnover in the deeper layers of the skin and actually communicate with living cells to generate new, healthier cells.
