WHAT ARE RETINOIDS?

WHAT ARE RETINOIDS?

The term retinoid refers to a group of compounds that derive from vitamin A. They possess structural and functional similarities to vitamin A. Retinols can be natural or synthetic and come in several types and forms, such as retinol, retinal, and retinyl esters.

What makes retinoids unique is that they are very effective in producing collagen in the skin. Collagen is the substance that gives skin its elasticity and youthful appearance. Retinoids stimulate cellular turnover in the deeper layers of the skin and actually communicate with living cells to generate new, healthier cells.

Retinoids were originally used to treat acne before it became apparent that they also have excellent anti-aging benefits to the skin. With over 40 years of research, retinoids are now the most scientifically supported ingredients to reduce signs of aging.

Retinoids help repair sun damage, reverse signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, smooth skin texture and even out the skin tone. Remember to always use sunscreen during the day as Vitamin A makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
